the slide on the pistol on Darnell's picture, fully back, shows he most probably pulled the trigger at the exact moment that gun fired. right on cue, to say the least...
An important thing to remember about all of these photos from Kent State is that they were taken by students. It's incredible to me how composed they remained literally under fire.
an incredible feat. it always intrigued me what was the force behind moving in the opposite direction of a crowd that is fleeing from imminent death. holding a camera and a sense of responsibility have to be only part of it. 25 years later I still don't have an answer.

This is important. Thank you for this.
Thank you for this. More than interesting. To encourage young or aspiring journalists to keep on watching looking and reporting.
Yes we’re short ghouls.
Speechless — thank you for this
Nicely done! You might want to add Marc Roboud's Washington Girl Holding a Flower also from Oct 21st, 1967. It sort of belongs....

Thank you for this. It's really interesting.
Man oh man. I’ve been thinking about what happened at Kent this week. Clearly I’m not the only one.
Neil Young played at New Orleans Jazzfest on May 4, 2004. At one point the band left the stage and he came out by himself so he could play Ohio.
Who was the person on the far right in a suit and tie, in Darnells's photo, behind the troops?
Believe it or not, that guy is the general in command that day - Brig. General Robert Canterbury
As an Australian born after this event I was totally unaware. Thank you for sharing this story today.
